THE BIKINI
The name for the bikini design was coined in 1946 by Parisian engineer Louis Reard, the inventor of the bikini.
The Holy See (Vatican) declared the design "sinful."
In 1997, Miss Maryland became the first contestant in 50 years to compete in a two-piece swimsuit at the Miss America Pageant.
The bikini is the most popular beachwear around the globe.

CHANNELING
MARY TYLER MOORE
The fashion stylings of Mary Richards,
Associate Producer at WJM TV in Minneapolis.
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970 - 1977)
When the Mary Tyler Moore Show aired back in the early to late 1970's, I was a young, impressionable girl heading into my teenage years. I couldn't wait for each week's episode so I could peek into the life of Mary - a life filled with an exciting career, fun friends, a tastefully decorated apartment and a coterie of men who seemed to spontaneously fall in love with her. She was the "It" girl of the times, an independent career woman who had the freedom to design the life in front of her and enjoy the ride. I wanted to be Mary Richards.
And then there were the clothes: A wardrobe filled with smart pantsuits and hip dresses that announced to the world she was a sophisticated businesswoman and elegant evening wear that transformed her into the enviable date. Mary's style influenced a culture of women and gave us the confidence that hey, maybe we can just have it all.
